A Solitary Candle

The sun sets, staining

The sky with the exquisite shade

Of violet; a handful of

Stars, flickering like

Candles in the evening breeze

But through all the

Centuries, and the millions of

Twilights I have witnessed,

Not one star has ever burned as brightly

As the solitary candle

That stands in the room behind me.

I turn to my love, only to find myself

Enslaved in your Emerald gaze.

Extending my hand to you, I ask:

"Shall we?  The night grows no younger,

And the Hunt awaits us."

You slip your hand into mine, all the while

Looking at me with complete and utter

Amazement, and yet I wonder

If you will ever realize that

It is you who amazes me; That

No matter the time that has passed, nor

The distance that may separate us, in the instant

We reunite I am consumed in the flames

Of your eternal light.
